SPRING FLING QUILT...ALMOST FINISHED!

I have never done a quilt that I will be so glad to have finished and put away, or give away or anything to take it out of my face....this is the one.

It's not that it wasn't fun at the beginning to make, it's not that it isn't pretty, it's not the size, which is queen, it's the time that it's taken to just do it!  It's been since last April when I got the issue of All People Quilt that I saw this and just had to do it!  Well, I've almost done it!

I'm sick and tired of looking at it.  Does that ever happen to you to a project that you've done, and felt the same way?  I start a project and finish it, then move on.  With this one, I've had to take a break, mind you I did send it out to be basted.

I also had a hip replaced, and 6 weeks of therapy.  But that's not the point.   I'm sick of doing this one, that's all.  I just can't imagine a hand quilter making a queen size quilt and not getting sick and tired  of the project.

AND....I still have the geese to outline, the binding to put on, which thank goodness it's done as Helen (my private teacher lol) made it  last summer on one of those glorious afternoons at the cottage.

So while this is a bit of a rant...I'm almost done!  I'm almost done, and if I click my slippers maybe it will finish itself.

Did I sound like the sucky puppy?

Nope, your reaction is very reasonable. It's exactly how I feel about the NYB wall hanging. I should be hand quilting it but I don't want to. Instead I'm cross stitching and knitting socks (Helen has become my private knitting teacher, she's such a generous person).

I agree with Crispy, your reaction is normal. Finish it, put it away in a drawer for 6 months, then pull it out and look at it again. You'll be amazed how fresh and wonderful it will seem with fresh eyes. In the meantime, you're in the homestretch with this quilt, so enjoy the process as much as you can, celebrate the finish, then in the drawer it goes!

Happy quilting,
Susan in Texas

PS It really is VERY lovely!

My smile usually comes back when it's finished, binding and all. YES, at some point the completion becomes a chore, I agree....

When it is all done Nanci you will love it again and it will be as beautiful to you as it is to me looking at it. Glad the hips are now good and that Hubby's knees are on the mend too. I get distracted way too easy that is why you see me with a zillion different projects on the go. Bit by bit they get finished. I am in no hurry. Good to hear from you.

Hi Nanci,
WELL DONE! The price paid is worth the prize gained - now who do you suppose sent those words?
It's just like working with new total joints! We're back home tomorrow so are enjoying our last day in the sun (brr, it's a little cool 58 degrees F - yah, I know, wah, wah)

Well my dear, it is fresh in my eyes. I love it when they are spring like. It would be great at the cottage.
And now I have my "paintbox" packaged and ready to send to you for quilting, but I promise it is anything but Qsize. I will send it on Saturday when I can get to the P.O.

I forget now, did you quilt this yourself? You know, once it's done, put it at the bottom of your closet for a year and then when you take it back out, maybe you'll like it again... unless you have someone really special to give it to, this one was too much work to give away!

I so know where you're coming from! And when you feel like this the only thing to do is to get it dome as fast as possible and then get it out of your sight!

I do love that quilt Nanci - I know you dont at the moment but it really is beautiful.

It is a lovely quilt. When it is all finished and you heave that big sigh of relief, spread it on the bed, stand back and be amazed at your accomplishment.

Nanci, I love the quilt and I do know how you feel. I agree with previous comment, "that is why we have so many UFO's". Give yourself a huge pat on the back. I love it. The Sucky Pup is adorable.

That quilt is awesome! But we all get tired of things we're working on and want to do something else (that's why I have so many UFO's....)Once it's finally finished it will probably end up as your favourite quilt!
